Public Participation
The Cranberry Township Board of Supervisors provide a communication platform at all public meetings for broad-based community input. Public participation affords stakeholders the opportunity to contribute to decisions that shape their community.
The following are guidelines to effectively participate in public meetings and public hearings to make sure feedback is both heard and considered to the best ability.
- Attend a Planning Advisory Commission Meeting. The Board of Supervisors receives recommendations from the Township’s Planning Advisory Commission. These Commission meetings are the first place an item is discussed and presented. The PAC also provides the opportunity for residents to ask questions or seek additional information regarding development plans, ordinances, and other matters.
- Preview the Agenda. All public meeting agendas are posted electronically at CranberryTownship.org/Agenda and at the Township’s Administrative Offices prior to any public Board meeting.
- Contact Staff. If there is an item of interest on the agenda, staff are available to meet or speak with residents in advance of any meeting.
- Attend a BOS Meeting and Participate in Public Comment. A general Public Comment Period is held at the beginning of Board of Supervisor’s meetings. Participants can speak on any issue. The Board may respond or refer the resident to a Township staff member. However, the Board is not required to participate in dialogue.
- Participate in Public Hearing. Those who wish to comment in the Public Hearing will be sworn in. The Public Hearing is a legal proceeding, and any comments are recorded as testimony. As such, a dialogue is not a focus. Rather, this is an opportunity to provide official comment and feedback on a topic.
- Conduct. Mindful conduct should be practiced during meetings. The Chairman of the Board of Supervisors is responsible for the conduct of the meeting. The Chairman allows the public to present testimony or comments without providing feedback on a citizen’s comment. Keeping the meeting on pace with respectful dialogue should be anticipated.
The Chairman will read a summary of these points before Public Comment and is responsible for keeping the meeting flowing.
Public Comment is encouraged to ensure citizens are involved in the decision-making process of the projects that shape their community.
General Comments
General Comments can be submitted via the United States Postal Service. Please allow sufficient time for delivery before the scheduled meeting. Note: This does not apply to public hearing testimony.
